BB clobber Songwe to dislodge Nomads
The 2025 TNM Super League title race yesterday took an exciting twist as Mighty Wanderers FC surrendered the top spot to their arch-rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets.
The Nomads registered their sixth draw of the season when they faced Creck Sporting Club at Balaka Stadium while Bullets thrashed Songwe Border 3-1 at Karonga Stadium.
With the league’s big three, Bullets, Wanderers and Silver Strikers all in action in matches monitored live on Fifa+, fans were on seat edges to see who would seize maximum points.

Bullets, now sitting on 40 points, showed their title credentials as they overturned an early setback to claim their fourth consecutive away victory, having also beaten Chitipa United, Mafco and Mzuzu City Hammers.
Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa hailed his players’ fighting spirit, saying they had proven their ability to deliver away from home.
Separated by just a point, Wanderers, who dropped to second with 39 points, knew they could not afford to slip, but still failed to stamp their authority against Creck Sporting.
Though they remain unbeaten, head coach Bob Mpinganjira expressed frustration at the mounting draws.
He said: “We didn’t play the usual game. We were flat from the beginning up to the end. Of course, we created some chances.
“We didn’t score. Sometimes when you don’t score you get punished. So, we’ve got one point in the bag, that’s how football goes.”
But it is not as if the Nomads did not put up a gallant fight, rather their effort was not the best, only for a resilient Creck to thwart their plans.
Despite creating several scoring chances through Blessings Mwalilino, Isaac Kaliyati, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Felix Zulu, the Nomads were either denied by Creck’s in-form goalkeeper Emmance Nyirenda or wasted their opportunities.
At Karonga Stadium, Bullets too struggled to break down a resolute defence and even trailed in the 40th minute after conceding from the spot.
Goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu saved Kelvin Nyondo’s penalty, but failed to stop the rebound.
However, the Songwe supporters’ party lasted only minutes as Babatunde Adepoju rose highest to head home a Chikumbutso Salima cross on the stroke of half-time.
The Nigerian striker then turned the game on its head early in the second half, capitalising on a defensive error by Hassam Nyembwe to put Bullets 2-1 up.
Adepoju later turned provider, setting up Salima for Bullets’ third in the 61st minute.
Songwe Border coach Christopher Nyambose said they played well but his team lacked depth.
“We lacked depth otherwise, but we played well,” he said.
Meanwhile, Silver Strikers also tightened the title defence with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Chinsinsi Maonga’s 29th-minute strike, assisted by Zebron Kalima, pushing them to 36 points, just three adrift of Wanderers.
Elsewhere, Civil Service United secured a 1-0 win over Blantyre-based newcomers Ekhaya FC at Civo Stadium thanks to Dastan Banda’s 27th-minute effort.
